Please contact me if you would like me to come to your group and teach a workshop.

These are my current workshops, but I am happy to discuss your requirements.

Tutti Frutti

A one day workshop, learning my technique for creating a unique fabric for appliqué out of all those little snippets and offcuts! You will stitch a background from recycled linens, papers and lace, and then stitch a design motif using the tutti frutti appliqué and free motion machine embroidery. You can also learn to use thicker threads in the bobbin (cable stitch) to add extra details.

See some examples from a workshop here.

Swirls of colour

This is turning into my signature style of work! Learn how to create a wonderful piece of unique machine embroidery textile art from recycled paper collage and fabric scraps, embellished with bold swirls and swoops of colour, line and texture. I will show you how I stitch curves of fabric, thick threads and trimmings, and embellish with beads, sequins and some handstitch. You will also learn how to make paper “stitchable” to add highlights of text to your work if you wish.

Textile Landscapes

Learn how to use easy machine embroidery, fabric scraps and  all sorts of threads and yarns to create a vibrantly colourful and textured landscape. Your landscape could be inspired by a favourite place, a postcard or photo, or completely imaginary!

Christmas Baubles

Sew a set of beautiful machine embroidered and beaded baubles for yourself or to give as a gift this Christmas. You will learn an easy way to make a richly embellished embroidery using fabric and lace scraps, snippets and threads, and how to make an embroidered ribbon to finish off your baubles.

Fabulous Fearless Free-motion Machine Embroidery

Learn my approach to free-motion machine embroidery, to fearlessly create lines, shapes, words, patterns and appliqué designs, and create a full zigzag book of samples and ideas. This can be a one or two day workshop, and is ideal for beginners to learn the basics and gain confidence, and for those with more experience to practise and develop their skills.

Machine Embroidery – taking it further

This is an intensive day of free-motion machine embroidery practise, including using metallic threads; drawing, writing and patterns; filling in with machine embroidery (shading, granite stitch); playing with tension (whip stitch, moss stitch, feather stitch); and using thicker threads (cable stitch).  By the end of the day you can create a book cover that showcases all the techniques, and/or a swatch of samples for future reference. For the more experienced.

Machine Embroidery – Cords, Braids, Beads & Tassels

This is another intensive day of machine embroidery where you will learn to make stitched cords, beaded cords, braids, and tassels, from the simple to the more embellished and ornate! The only fabric we will use is water soluble fabric. For the more experienced.

Flotsam and Jetsam

This can be a fast-paced one day, or a more leisurely two day workshop for more experienced embroiderers.

Use wire and water soluble fabric to construct a free-hanging transparent embroidered shape. Techniques learnt on the workshop include making cords, using water soluble fabric, handling wire, and stitching beads, sequins and washers with the sewing machine.

See some examples from a workshop here.

Celtic Coastlines

This can be a fast-paced one day, or a more leisurely two day workshop. Suitable for beginners.

You will use calico, papers and paint to construct a background for your embroidery, and then use machine embroidery to add a variety of fabrics and yarns to create a seascape.

You will learn how to use machine embroidery to layer fabrics and threads, including methods of using thicker threads with the sewing machine. If you wish, you can also learn several different methods to construct Celtic knots in order to embellish your work with that final Celtic finishing touch!

See some examples from a workshop here and my weekly class when we did this as a project here.

Vase of flowers

This is a short workshop, which could fit into a morning or afternoon, or be stretched to create a more leisurely whole-day workshop.

It is suitable for complete beginners. You will construct a simple background from patched fabrics, and layer up scraps and oddments to create a picture of a colourful vase of flowers. I can also show you a fun way to create thread flowers using machine embroidery.
